Sometimes the best way to breathe new life and add punch to a room is give an otherwise simple object a standout makeover. We shed some light on this theory with our friends at the freshly launched home & lifestyle destination, Domaine by transforming a plain ol’ lamp into a real charmer. Snakeskin is the pattern of the moment (as our favs Proenza Schouler and the Chinese calendar will attest), so flip on your decorating switch and add some sizzle & hiss to that side table!
To create: Apply continuous strips of snake-print tape long enough to stretch over all four-sides of the lamp base; firmly press down to ensure tape adheres to the surface. Begin taping at the bottom of the base’s backside, working your way up to the top; repeat until the base is completely covered in snake-print tape. Use scissors for a clean edge. Apply a small dab of glue with a craft stick to the back of a flatback stud, then adhere it to the lamp for an extra embellishment. Repeat for each stud, spacing them evenly across the surface. Allow for the glue to dry completely, then plug in and brighten up your night!

Mayday…Mayday…Summer is approaching in a big, big way and your wardrobe is in need of a fresh coat of paint - literally! The days ahead are easy breezy, so step into the season with a fresh and colorful outlook. Block out some time for this DIY that mixes simple-chic style with bold n’ bright hues.
To create: Use gaff tape to section off the cuffs, collar, pocket and button line of your button down shirt. Pour a small amount of fabric spray into a paint dish, then use a foam brush to apply a thin layer to the cuffs of your shirt. Choose two other colors, then repeat the process on the rest of the blocked off sections. Once dry, remove the tape and join the color-block trend!

We are over-the-moon and as giddy as can be over Domaine, our new favorite destination for shopping, style and inspiration for the home launched by the fabulous team behind WhoWhatWear. Domaine will do for your entire home what WWW has always done for your closet, bringing endless amounts of style, inspiration and of course DIY!
For our inaugural DIY collab with Domaine, we caught the baroque fever and got inspired by the beautiful and ornate design details of the Alexander McQueen flagship on Savile Row. This decorative fireplace adds a theatrical, heart-fluttering touch to any home. Transforming your space is a surefire way to put a smile on your face, so spark your creative flame and get started!
To create: Place moldings with corresponding measurements to your fireplace on the floor to mirror its frame. Lay the embossed wood carving pieces on top of the moldings to create a design. Use a trim brush to coat each carving in a thin coat of white interior paint (use a trim tray and drop cloth to help keep your surfaces clean). Once the paint is completely dry, apply a dab of permanent bond to the backside of each carving and glue it to the molding. Allow the decorative moldings to dry on a flat surface for 24-hours before securing onto fireplace. Then, use screws and an electric screwdriver to drill each panel of decorated molding around your fireplace. Once secure, cover the screw heads with a touch of paint to allow them to blend in with the rest of the fireplace.

Great designers often draw inspiration from their cultural heritage, and none so consistently and vibrantly as Dolce & Gabbana. Season after season, their collections paint a colorful portrait of Italian culture, history and lifestyle, and the Sicilian-inspired looks of Spring/Summer 2013 are definitely no exception. Prints that recall street theater puppets and Italian plate motifs mix with beachy stripes to tell a chic seaside story…but as you might predict, our crafty eye was firmly focused on the adorably ornate raffia earrings that accented each look. Bring la dolce vita to your jewelry box with this DIY version we whipped up with Who What Wear!
To create: Use pliers to attach three jump rings to the bottom of each filigree earring, or create your own earring using a filigree finding and earring wire. Next, string an assortment of raffia pieces (approximately 4” to 6” long) through each jump ring. Create a tassel by folding each raffia bunch in half at the center; then wrap and knot another piece of raffia around the head of each bundle. String rose quartz, lapis, wooden beads and pom poms onto a piece of wire and loop through the filigree to embellish. Secure embellishment by knotting leftover wire to the backside of the filigree.

Sometimes you just need to have a girly moment. With Spring air flowing and flowers in bloom, it’s the perfect time to trade tough zippers for sweet ruffles, distressed denim for floral prints, and studded stacks for pretty pastel gems. Inspired by Tous’ colorful Bliss collection, wrist candy becomes wrist poetry with this DIY bracelet that reminds us why gems are truly, truly outrageous!
To create: Place each Swarovski Fancy Stone into a setting and secure by clamping prongs closed with pliers. Next, use a sharpie to draw oval shapes onto the plastic envelope, then use scissors to cut out each shape. Draw an oval that is approximately 1/4” wider than the set stone to allow room for jump rings to attach. Dab a small amount of glue onto a craft stick and spread onto the plastic oval. Adhere this to the backside of your set stone. Allow the glue to dry completely, then pierce two holes on both sides of the plastic oval with a needle. Connect the plastic pieces with a jump ring and finish off by attaching a clasp.

Dear fashion, lately we’ve been noticing a special glow about you, and P.S.- we love it. From iridescent Dior frocks to Burberry’s shimmering trench coats, Spring style is getting its gleam on. Slip into your own shine with this sneaky DIY that cranks up the wattage on a simple pair of kicks.
To create: Cover the rubber rim and tag of the sneaker with paper tape. Next, use a foam brush to coat the shoe with a thin layer of acrylic paint (choose a paint color that compliments the iridescent film, as it will show through). Use scissors to cut 1” squares of the iridescent film, then crinkle each square. Spread mod podge on each piece of film and begin to layer onto surface of sneaker. Continue until the entire surface is covered in iridescent film. Finish and seal with another coat of mod podge, then trim any edges hanging over. Let dry completely before wearing.
