Take the term “fashion plate” to the next level with this deliciously edible DIY. The famous Black & White cookie (also known as a Half & Half) is a New York staple…but we think desserts deserve to play dress-up during the holidays too. Add this eye-popping metallic punch to create a sweet that’s worthy of the top of the tree but better yet, good enough to eat!

To create: Paint the surface of the Nilla Wafer with lemon extract using a paint brush. Brush half of the cookie with silver highlighter dust. Finish off by dusting the other side with gold highlighter dust.

It’s the time of year where we’re looking forward to endless celebrations with friends and family with thanks filling our hearts. This Thanksgiving, in addition to cooking up a spread of hearty Fall dishes for the table, spread creativity throughout the house that will last longer than those leftovers! Your local flea market likely has a bounty of vintage bottles in various shapes, colors, and sizes. Hang them up with luxe chain and add an array of delicate flowers to create decorative vases that add unique style and cheer to any space.

To create: Tear a piece of gold duck-tape long enough to wrap around the neck of the bottle. Adjust gold chain to your desired length and tape on both sides of the bottle. Snip the excess chain off. Hang the vase on a branch and add some flowers for a finishing touch.

Fashion forward-thinkers know while plaid is most recognized for its place in wooly blankets, scarves and cozy flannels for that cold winter’s eve, our passion for this most versatile textile gives it stylish new life this season in the form of purses, platforms, ponchos…even pedis!  While Burberry wears the crown, plaid madness has crisscrossed the runways of heavy hitters like Dries Van Noten, Donna Karan and Vivenne Westwood, delivering looks that range from posh to punk. Its origins stem back to 16th century Scotland and the British Isles, where it’s traditionally known as tartan.  Originally donned in varying colors and patterns to identify different clans, royals soon romanticized and made it popular with the masses. On November 13, Disney Pixar is releasing on DVD, “Brave“—an animated tale about Merida, a determined spunky Princess who defies the rules to break an evil curse. Get inspired by this young heroine, go mad for plaid and add a weave to your sleeve!

To create: Use a marker, draw and cut a pattern for your elbow patch. You could use a template or for a fun shape try a cookie cutter. Next, trace and trim the pattern on your tartan fabric. Pin the patches to the sweater at the elbows with straight pins and stitch with needle and thread. Create a temporary look or double-up on the thread to securely attach them.

When a chunky chain around your neck, bangles on your wrist, sparkle dangling from your ears and a hint of glint atop your peep-toe just doesn’t seem to cut it…take a hint from the maestro of playful distinction, Oscar de la Renta, and take embellishment to the next level. Photo prints of jewels jazz up jackets, dresses & skinny pants throughout Oscar’s Fall 2012 collection, fashioning a nod to envelope-pushing elegance and the trendiness of head to toe prints. If you too can never have enough bijoux…put on your crafty pants and start creating with us and WhoWhatWear faster than you can say “ODLR”.

To create: Snap photos with your smartphone of encrusted jewels. We used earrings by Oscar de la Renta and a vintage brooch. Print off the image on a dark fabric transfer sheet, you may have to repeat the photo. Cut out the jewels and place them on the pants to create an unique print. Peel the backside of the transfer and iron as directed. P.S.- to prevent fading, dry-clean only.

Halloween is that magical season where imaginations and creative fantasies run wild, and it’s the ultimate opportunity to scare up that limitless array of crafty tricks & treats you’ve been dreaming up. While whipping up a costume may be the first project on your list, we suggest taking dress-up to the next level with a boo-tiful take on string art. With some colorful string, nails and a geometric pattern in mind, create this unique holiday décor that’s unexpectedly chic and one-of-a-kind.

To create: Push thin nails around the top and bottom of the pumpkin in a circle formation, leave approximately half an inch between each nail. P.S.- Don’t push the nail heads in yet. Knot the pink string to a nail and wrap it in an up-and-down pattern across the pumpkin. Create contrast with a different colored string and repeat the knot and wrapping step. To finish it off, push the nail heads into the pumpkin to secure.

P.S.- Enter Polyvore’s All Hallows collage contest, for a chance to be featured on Polyvore!
