Over the weekend I met a lovely, chic guest at the Montauk Yacht Club sporting a Philip Treacy masterpiece which inspired me to make my own!  I went a little industrial and modern using armature wire, which I picked up at the hardware store.  My free-form design is a perfect accessory for a festive party or use for fabulous display art.

PS- Phillip Treacy transforms the most amazing fantasies into mind-blowing and adorning hats and headpieces.  The London based designer/genius, has been creating works of art for over 30 years.  He has collaborated with greats like Karl Lagerfeld, Ralph Lauren,  Alexander McQueen and the Queen, herself!

Sum Summer DIY for you…  I love adding a burst of color to my wardrobe.  A scarf is a great accessory to drape around the neck and spruces up any ensemble!  Be BBQ or beach bonfire chic in your new summer scarf!
This is an easy breezy project that should take you a few minutes, and will look like you just bought it at your favorite shop.  All you need is a T-shirt and a pair of sharp scissors.
Use a cool tye-dye print, recycle an old vintage comfy tee, ANY Tee shirt works!!!! Get creative… throw some knots on stands or add beads!
xx

PS- I MADE THIS… Window for Madewell, East Hampton.

I got roped in by one of my favorite brands, Madewell to work on their East Hampton, New York windows.  I live for making things out of rope… anything nautical is right up my alley, so you can imagine how excited I was to make rope balls, nets, chains, and other cool nautical inspired things for their new store! Check it out, and visit your nearest Madewell store.

My world is my oyster, and platter, and dish….
Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, said, “Change your thoughts, and you change your world”.  The esteemed author was an optimist who encouraged people to interpret thoughts into reality!  I’m Sold!
Inspired by both the words of Dr. Peale and my infatuation for globes I decided to use old maps, and decoupage them onto unique surfaces.  I chose a tin tray (looks like silver, fooled you), an old dinner plate, and the bottom of my left-over plastic food container.
Cut your maps in circles, long strips, or simply cover the entire surface.  Be sure to cut slits on the paper so it can easily bend around the curved edges, keeping lines flush against surface.  Once the paper is in place, then grab your paint brush and go to work!  I suggest 2-3 coats for the MOD MODGE.  Put on evenly, and wait until each layer is dry until slapping on another coat.
If you want finish these off super fancy,  back the underneath of your surface with felt (some versions come with a self-adhesive, or just use a glue gun).  Your decoupaged  platters, plates, bowls, will now SERVE your decedent decor and world traveller needs (ps- don’t eat or wash… for fab decor use only!)
FUN IDEA:  Make a bunch and hang together on a wall!  This collection will look tres impressive and is the perfect statement and/or solution for an empty wall.
Have fun in YOUR world!

PS- I made this… flower painted stationary
Jackson Pollock didnt stay in the lines and neither do I (shocker).  I used his paint-burst inpiration for a lovely springtime project…. flower stamped stationary!
I love sending my friends hand-made cards for thank yous, birthdays, and unexpected hi’s.  The layers of acrylic paint create a rich texture on the colorful paper.  This will take you under 15 minutes to master, and is an impressive way to say “HELLO” to your friends and family.  Other ideas you can stamp or splatter on are wrapping paper or  lamp shades…also try using leaves, feathers, etc as stamps!

“It doesn’t make much difference how the paint is put on as long as something has been said. Technique is just a means of arriving at a statement.”

PS- I made this… CORK-TASTIC NECKLACE
Right now I’m really into using cork materials for accessories.  Mixing the light-toned, natural texture with shiny objects creates a sleek combo.  Using leftover wine corks, thumbtacks I had floating around in my junk drawer, and a ribbon, I was able to create this delicious necklace.
Use an E-xacto knife to slice the corks (be VERY careful), like you’re cutting a sushi roll- use a few dabs of glue on the reverse side to hold together the disks- and pop in some tacks to adorn and secure the front.  Then hole punch the corners to secure the ribbon tie.
Easy to make…. you should too… WINE NOT?

Raindrops on roses, and whiskers on kittens… OK- you get it.  These are a few of MY FAVORITE THINGS!
No matter where I am, where I’m traveling, I always pick up rocks, shells, sticks, pieces of sea glass, rope, wood, tree bark, antlers, basically anything thats not nailed down and will fit in a jar or glass hurricane.  Its a way to showcase your personality, act as a conversation piece, and display a unique home accessory!
Get creative… fill ‘em up with matchbooks, colorful toy cars, marbles, ribbons, ropes, notions, found objects, whatever you fancy!
Happy Filling!

I’m borderline obsessed with these j’amazing bohemian floral headpieces.  I can’t get enough of this delicious look spotted on DVF’s Spring 09 runway.
Round up some fun colored fabric,  cut into Large and Small flowers (*see pattern & be sure to cut 1/2 inch slits for flowers to flutter), braid 3 pieces of satin ribbon (approx. 1 yd each), find a bead or button for the flowers center.  Use tools listed above, and with a few stitches, dabs of glue, you have the essential Spring accessory!
